The Brotherhood Auxiliaries have been groups of volunteers giving supplementary support to the organisation, from operating op shops, running bake sales, and spreading the word about the work of the BSL, they have been a part of the 90 years of history at the BSL.
The Melbourne Younger Set was started in 1958 when the Auxiliary Organiser of the Brotherhood Miss Nell Rawlins, asked Beth Pitman ( who was at that time working for the Brotherhood) to get her husband, Ian and a few other of their friends together to form a young group who would raise money for the Brotherhood. (Melbourne Younger Set 1962, A night in nineveh')
Four new Auxiliaries commence - Croydon, Sunshine, the Sewing Group and Wangaratta (the first country Auxiliary), giving a total of twenty-one (BSL Annual Report 1959-1960, p. 12)
BSL Notes June 1960 (no 142) called for knitters to knit for the shops and the BSL annual fair. Wool was supplied to the knitters. Knitters were asked to knit baby clothes or small items such as socks, tea cosies, shawls, as adult clothing was too expensive to make and sell.
