1939

261 Glenlyon Rd, North Fitzroy was purchased by Rev G.K. Tucker, Superior, on the 12 of December 1939, as a church house for ordained and lay members.

 

1948

Property was transferred to St Laurence Trust Proprietary Ltd on 10th April 1948

 

1955

At a meeting of the Board it was decided to use the property for the residence of the Chaplain of the Goal, Rev J Burnett. (Information from an internal memo dated 19/12/1955, can't tell from the memo if this eventuated)

 

 

1959

Master plan drawn up for 15-20 self-contained flats “in North Fitzroy” (became Keble Court in East Brunswick) financed by money donated by the Voluntary Helpers’ Shop (initial donation of £7,000) and subsidies from the Commonwealth Government (BSL Annual Report 1958-1959, p.3; BSL Annual Report 1959-1960)

 

1960

Contract let for the construction of the first 18 flats at Keble Court, Glenlyon Road, East Brunswick. (BSL Annual Report 1959-1960)

 

1961

First section of Keble Court, with Brunswick Rotary Club assisting with the furnishings, opens in December with 18 flats for elderly people.  Almost 200 applications were received for the flats.  Brunswick Council donates an area of land at the rear of Keble Court.  Additional flats to be built when finances allow. 1965

Extensions to Keble Court commenced, adding 12 flats  (BSL Annual Report 1964-1965, p.8) “In the selection of tenants from the long waiting list, priority is given to age pensioners who have no other resources.  Consideration is also given to applicants who have lived most of their lives in Brunswick or surrounding districts and are anxious to remain in this area.  The services charges at Keble Court are: 28/- for a single pensioner receiving the basic pension and the supplementary rent allowance."

 

1966

Keble Court additions of 12 flats, completing the project of 30 flats, opened in July by the President of the Voluntary Helpers Shop (Camberwell).  This group raised all the money required to attract the Commonwealth Government subsidy (BSL Annual Report 1965-1966, p.11)

 

    

 

 

1985

The Voluntary Helpers’ Shop in Camberwell, which had supported the five major denominations with funds for building accommodation for the aged over its thirty-two years, closed through lack of volunteers.  The Brotherhood had received $658,000 over the years for projects including Sumner House, Sambell Lodge, Keble Court and the Group Housing Project. 1997

Aged Care Master Plan was drawn up by Bill Williams Architects for presentation to Executive Council.  Properties included in the exercise were Broughton Nursing Home, Sambell Lodge, Sumner House, Millott House, flats in Keble Court, Moor and Palmer Streets, 22 bedsits at the G K Tucker Settlement and the reorganisation of the Head Office site. (Annual Report, 1997).
